Care Level: Moderate
Temperament: Peaceful (may nip long-finned tankmates)
Reef Safe: No. It eats small invertebrates such as ornamental shrimp, snails and tubeworms and may nip stony corals, so it is best kept in a fish-only tank with live rock.
Diet: Omnivore. Offer a varied diet of krill, mysis, chopped clam, squid and hard-shelled shrimp, plus nori or other algae. Feed small portions a few times a day. Hard-shelled foods help wear down its continuously growing teeth.
Maximum Size: Approx. 10 cm (4 inches)
Minimum Tank Size: 50 gallons (approx. 190 L)
Water Conditions: 24-26°C, SG 1.020-1.025, pH 8.1-8.4
Keep one per tank unless you have a known mated pair, and avoid housing with other Canthigaster species or aggressive tankmates. As with all pufferfish, never provoke it to inflate, and do not lift it out of the water in a net.
